The low-pressure system that had developed over the Bay of Bengal has now moved towards Jharkhand, resulting in a temporary reduction in heavy rainfall across West Bengal. However, the rain is expected to intensify again starting Sunday, with several districts placed under heavy rainfall alerts.
For the next two days, both South and North Bengal are expected to see light to moderate rain with thunder in some areas. Saturday is likely to remain relatively calm, with scattered showers. The humidity levels, however, remain high and may cause discomfort across urban and rural areas.
Fresh alerts have been issued from Sunday onward. Heavy rain is likely in Birbhum and Murshidabad districts, with thunderstorms and strong winds possible in several parts of South Bengal, including Kolkata. On Monday, rainfall is expected to increase across all South Bengal districts, accompanied by gusty winds. Tuesday may bring heavy rainfall to South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore.
In North Bengal, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar may receive isolated heavy rain on Saturday. From Sunday, five districts—Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri—are expected to experience heavy rainfall. On Monday, Malda, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur are likely to be added to the warning list, with very heavy rainfall predicted in some of these regions.
Kolkata is expected to remain partly cloudy on Saturday, with the possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.3°C on Saturday, which is 0.5°C below normal. The maximum temperature on Friday was 29.6°C, which was 3.4°C below the average. Humidity levels in the city ranged between 90% and 95%, and 0.1 mm rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.
The temperature over the next 24 hours in Kolkata is expected to remain between 26°C and 31°C. No heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the city for Saturday, but authorities have advised caution beginning Sunday due to the likelihood of widespread rain and wind activity across the state.
